The options behind the brush industry

The brush-making industry in Dantu District, Zhenjiang can be traced back to the 1980s and was once a pillar industry of the local economy. Up to now, there are 154 brush-making enterprises of various types in the district, with more than 4,000 employees and an annual output value exceeding 1 billion yuan. China's environmental governance requirements are becoming more and more stringent, environmental complaints about the brush industry have frequently occurred, and the pressure on the assessment of environmental binding indicators has greatly increased. Solve the problem of "how to rise" and "where to turn". Another option is to "shut down" once and for all, which will hurt traditional industries, the economy of towns and villages and the employment of the masses.

    "Unimaginable" "Water for Oil"

"To understand the 'water-to-oil' process, we must first understand where the irritating smell of paint comes from?" Xie Baosheng, the head of Huaxia Paint, one of the research and development units of the "water-to-oil" process, told reporters. Taking paint as an example, organic solvents such as benzene, formaldehyde, toluene, and xylene are required to be used as diluents during the use of paint, and these organic solvents will emit a pungent odor when volatilized. "The technological core of 'water-for-oil' is to replace the above-mentioned organic solvents with water."

The 55-year-old Wei Guoyun has worked in a brush-making company for 16 years and has been engaged in paint coating operations. He told reporters that the paint workshop he was in used to be the worst place in the brush production process, and the solvents such as moisture-proofing agent added to the paint made people cry and cough constantly. And the use of water-based paint makes all this a thing of the past. Wei Guoyun stopped his work and told reporters, "It's hard to imagine that there is no paint smell in the workshop now."
